đź‘‹ I'm Lila Shroff, a Stanford undergrad pursuing a B.S. in Symbolic Systems (Human-Centered AI) with an English minor.Â
I have experience in the following areas:
AI and Creativity: I co-led a working group at the Stanford Human-Centered AI Institute (HAI) researching AI and creative expression. I created Embeddings, an interview series on AI and media creation, featuring interviews with leading CS researchers, filmmakers, and award-winning authors. My position paper analyzing large language models as a new content medium was accepted to a workshop at CHI ’23. I also contributed to a paper on designing intelligent and interactive writing assistants that was published as a conference paper at CHI '24. An article I wrote on AI & copyright was published in the GRACE and I was a Lunsford Award finalist for my presentation of this research. My research on AI and art has also been supported by the Center on Philanthropy & Civil Society and cited by the LA Times.
Journalism: I am on the editorial board at Reboot where I write critical essays and fiction about technology. I created New York Times award-winning audio and developed media literacy curriculum at KUOW (Seattle’s NPR station). I was previously a producer with the Stanford Storytelling Project.
Tech Policy and Trust: Last summer, I worked on policy at Credo AI, an AI governance platform, and was an inaugural fellow in Stanford’s Technology Ethics & Policy Fellowship. I presented my research on mis/disinformation on TikTok at Stanford’s inaugural Trust & Safety Research Conference and am an Intelligence, Data, Ethics, & Society Fellow through Northeastern University, in collaboration with Harvard. My writing on digital platforms has been published by the Harvard Business Review and the Stanford Internet Observatory.
VC and Startups: Before college, I took a year off school and worked under Li Jin at Atelier Ventures, a venture fund investing in startups like Substack and Descript. During this period, I co-founded Side Hustle Stack, a resource for discovering flexible work opportunities, and helped grow our newsletter from 0 to 175K+ subscribers. Before that, I worked at glow.fm, a podcast monetization startup that was acquired by Libsyn.
Neuroscience: I was a Stanford PsychFellow and worked in the Gardner lab under Jiwon Yeon on a project building a computational model of eye movement, a potential biomarker of neurodegenerative disease.
